The Work of Artist Anthony James

As a Set and Production Designer Anthony has designed for over fifty amateur and professional productions.  These include ‘The Country Wife’, ‘Oliver’, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ and many more.   During 2008 and 2009 he was the ‘in house’ set designer for the Priory Theatre in Kenilworth

Between 1993 and 1995 he was also Vice Chairperson of Nuneaton Arts Centre, helping to keep alive the theatre which started Anthony’s interest in designing sets and costumes. He has even been known to tread the boards himself, occasionally playing parts as diverse as Prospero in ‘Return to the Forbidden Planet’, Toad in ‘Wind In The Willows’, Gomez in ‘The Addams Family Musical’ and Grampa Potts in ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’.

Employment has included working as a community workshop leader and as a designer for Nintendo Video Games.  Anthony was also one of the first BBC Vision trainees, working on shows such as ‘Blue Peter’, ‘Noels Telly Addicts’, ‘Style Challenge and ‘Out of Hours’. He also worked on ITV’s first Christmas Pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ recorded at The Old Vic Theatre in London.
His alien creations appeared on ITV’s Sunday night drama ‘Kingdom’ in the summer of 2009 and in 2018 Anthony’s work appeared in the major motion picture ‘JURASSIC WORLD FALLEN KINGDOM’ and in a new  CBEEBIES show ‘JUNK RESCUE’.

In 1992 Anthony started his own company called Creaturama running mask and model making workshops in over 400 schools across the country.  He also created three popular touring exhibitions of his work called ‘Creaturama Universe’ (based on aliens and monsters), ‘Creaturama Dinosaur’ (based on prehistoric creatures) and ‘Creaturama Legends’ (based on ancient myths and legends).  Both Universe and Legends have appeared on BBCTV’s ‘Blue Peter’ and all three exhibitions have broken attendance records at galleries nationally.

In 2014, 15 and 16 Anthony wrote and directed three pantomimes for ‘Nuneaton Pantomime & Revue Society ’CINDERELLA’, ‘SNOW WHITE’ and ‘SLEEPING BEAUTY’ – all broke box office records and won NODA ‘Best Pantomime’ awards.
